To make meat flowers, you will need to find hard salami. Preferably Italian dry salami like Genoa salami, or another cured meat that is cut into round slices.

A stiffer meat will yield the best results. I have even made pepperoni roses in a pinch! They turned out great, and my son loved them.

I need to warn you that deli meat, cold cuts or prosciutto is not the best meat to hold the shape of a rose since it is pretty floppy.

Step-by-Step Process

Method 1: Shot Glass Salami Rose

This method for making salami flowers started as a viral TikTok trend! And I have to be honest, this is my favorite method because it requires minimal effort!

For this method, you will need small shot glass, champagne flute, or whiskey snifter.

Layer slices of salami around the rim of of the glass, folding the salami in half over the top of the glass.

You will likely need a minimum of 4-5 pieces of salami to make your salami rose! You can make the rose more full by simply using more salami slices. Add a second layer staggered over the top of the first layer.

Once the salami is folded over the rim of the glass, turn the glass upside down directly onto your cheese board to unveil your rose shape!

How to Make Different Size Salami Roses

There is an easy way to change the size of your charcuterie board flowers. Just change the size or shape of the glass you’re using. Use different-sized glasses to create different sized flowers!

Smaller Flowers: For a smaller roses, just use a small glass! Use a glass with a small hole to change the size of the rose. A champagne glass works well!

Large Salami Rose: For larger roses, use a larger glass (like wine glasses) and add multiple layers of salami! For example, you could fold multiple layers of salami along the rim of a wine glass.

A grouping of smaller roses around a large rose makes for a unique charcuterie board!

Method 2: The Roll Up!

This method is also a great way to make your rose.

Fold 4-5 slices of salami in half and then lay them on a flat surface, overlapping. Starting with the first slice of salami, begin to roll the salami into a tight roll.

Secure with a toothpick through the base of the rose. Then, gently peel down the outer layers of the rose petals to encourage a fuller shape and unveil your beautiful rose!

Adding Rose Leaves

I typically do not do this step, but you can absolutely add herbs to the bottom part of the rosette to give the appearance of leaves. Mint leaves and basil leaves are good options. Just attach the herbs with a toothpick.

Storing Leftover Salami Roses

If you aren’t going to serve your salami roses immediately, cover them with plastic wrap or store them in an airtight container. Then, place them in the refrigerator until it’s time to serve.
