Easy Caramel Apple Dump Cake
This Caramel Apple Dump Cake recipe only requires five ingredients. It tastes like a rich and delicious apple pie!
If you’ve been following along here for a while, it’s no secret I’m a huge fan of dump cakes like this Caramel Apple Dump Cake! It’s a fall dessert that truly could NOT be easier to make.
I love a good reason to use my KitchenAid mixer, but if I can just dump stuff in a pan and pop it in the oven, I’m even happier! One of the most popular desserts on this site is my Fresh Blackberry Dump Cake, and it inspired me to start experimenting with more dump cake flavors for fall.

When the idea for this Caramel Apple Dump Cake recipe came to me, we were on our way a friend’s house for my husband’s fantasy football draft party. I thought it would be pretty simple to pull together.
The next day, I hustled to the grocery store to get the simple ingredients needed to get this caramel apple cobbler in the oven while we got ready!

Recipe Substitutions and Additions
This easy caramel apple dump cake recipe has plenty of substitutions you can make! Here are a few ideas:
- Instead of the cans of apple pie filling, you can make your own homemade pie filling with fresh apples! Just make sure to add a teaspoon of apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice to the filling.
- Add nuts! A handful of walnuts or pecans or even peanuts are awesome.
- Instead of the white cake mix you are welcome to use a different cake mix, like yellow cake mix, vanilla cake mix or spice cake mix.
- I typically use melted butter to make sure it spreads evenly, but you can also place pats of sliced butter on top of the cake mix layer. It will melt as it bakes!

How to Make Caramel Apple Dump Cake
Putting this caramel apple cake together couldn’t be easier. Just add apple pie filling to your 9×13” pan, drop a few bits of caramel in, top with cake mix, and then top with pats of butter or melted butter!
For this recipe, I used caramel bits that I found in the baking aisle. But you could also use diced up homemade caramels! I can’t even imagine how delicious they would make this caramel apple cobbler!
Then, it’s ready to bake!

Saving Leftovers
Cover your pan or transfer the leftovers to an airtight container. Store on the counter for up to 3 days.

Made this tonight for a potluck dinner in our neighborhood. My dish came home EMPTY except for the scrapings! My husband made me scoop up the spoonful that was left and save it for him to eat later! SO easy and SO good!!!
Karen, you made my day! So glad everybody loved it.
The caramel apple Dump Cake was a huge hit at our family dinner! It was so easy to make but sooooooo good. The caramel melted into the apple filling and the topping was buttery. I’ll definitely be making this again this fall.

Can this be made ahead of time and stored
Yes it can! Get it as air tight as you can and store at room temperature for up to 3 days.
My husband would love this, but he is gluten free. Has anyone tried this with a gluten free boxed cake mix?
Hi Becca- I’ve made this with gluten free box cake mix with good results. You may want to add just a bit more butter to the top… the gluten free mix seems extra starchy and just needs a little more help to get gooey! 🙂
