Marinating chicken to tender perfection is easier than you think with this tangy Greek chicken marinade! Made with Greek yogurt, lemon, oils and spices for plenty of good flavor.

When I’m grilling chicken breast I just have to marinate them first. Lean chicken and high heat can sometimes give you dried out chicken if you aren’t careful! This Greek chicken marinade is an easy way to give you juicy, flavorful chicken every single time.

Other than being delicious, I love that this easy marinade uses common ingredients! For the marinade ingredients, you’ll need tangy lemon juice, creamy Greek yogurt, and plenty of common seasonings that are already in the pantry.

Use this marinade on chicken breasts or chicken thighs. It’s also wonderful on pork chops!

I designed this marinade recipe to be used on grilled chicken, whether you grill the chicken whole or thread pieces of chicken on skewers! But of course, you can bake the chicken in the oven, sear it in the skillet, or even air fry it. It’s up to you.

Recipe Substitutions

It’s easy to make ingredient substitutions for this recipe. Here are a few suggestions:

  • Instead of the Greek yogurt, you’re welcome to use sour cream.
  • Any neutral tasting cooking oil, like olive oil, can be substituted for the avocado oil.
  • Instead of fresh garlic cloves, feel free to use 2-3 teaspoons of garlic powder instead.
  • I used dried herbs in this recipe, but feel free to substitute fresh herbs where you can! Most herbs fall under a 1:3 ratio. So, for example, for 1 teaspoon dried oregano, you would need three teaspoons fresh oregano (one tablespoon). Or, instead of the 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, you could substitute 2 teaspoons dried parsley.
  • I used a Ziploc bag to store the raw chicken and marinade, which makes for very easy cleanup. But you could also use a baking dish sealed tight with plastic wrap if needed, or any airtight container!

Serving Suggestions

Serve your marinated, grill chicken in pita bread with cucumber, sliced red onions, tomato, crumbled feta, lettuce and a bit of hummus or tzatziki sauce. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a drizzle of olive oil are always welcome additions.

It’s also great served as grilled kabobs with pasta rice or quinoa. Or serve on top of a Greek salad with olives and plenty of feta cheese. Enjoy a cold glass of carob juice on the side for a perfect pairing.

You can also use the chicken in your favorite chicken recipe that calls for diced or shredded chicken!

Storing Leftovers

Store leftover cooked chicken in the fridge for up to 3 days.
