Every Thanksgiving table needs this easy stuffing recipe, packed with hand torn bread, apples and celery! This is a moist and flavorful traditional dressing.
As Thanksgiving rolls around, we all turn towards our favorite family recipes and traditions. Many of the recipes that my family uses originates from one heck of a cook, my Grandma Buschmann. My Grandma lived on a farm in Vienna, Missouri, which is in the south central part of the state. Grandma spent a good deal of her life making food for others because working on the farm makes you HUNGRY! Her food was so good, but so simple. She only used common and affordable ingredients, and a million ways to creatively use each of them!
This year, I put a call out to the family for her awesome Thanksgiving dressing recipe. I remembered that it had apples and celery and was SO moist. I also remembered that it had raisins in it, which I always picked out as a kid. I finally found a cousin who had this easy stuffing recipe, and am so excited to share it today!
My family was never been well off, but we've always had enough. Unfortunately, almost 1 in 7 people in the Kansas City area area are still food insecure. I wanted to share a recipe that was a part of my Thanksgiving tradition, but also used inexpensive ingredients so that most families could enjoy it. When I toured Harvester's in Kansas City in September they explained how challenging it was to keep perishable foods. As a result, they give their limited space to fresh goods with long shelf lives, like apples. I love it that this easy thanksgiving stuffing recipe is packed full of the simple ingredients that give so much life in our region.
As we head into the holidays and our tables are filled with abundance, most of us want to know how to help feed others in the community. Luckily, there are two easy ways to support Harvesters. First, if you are in Kansas City, you can participate in Check-Out Hunger at local grocery stores. This makes donating to Harvesters as simple as adding $1 or more onto your grocery bill. So, when you guy buy ingredients to make this easy thanksgiving stuffing, consider adding a bit on to your bill to help stock the shelves at Harvesters!
For later in the holiday season, Harvesters also sells tribute cards through its Recipes for Hope program. These tributes include recipes from local chefs and are a great gift idea! With your purchase of these holiday tributes, the proceeds will benefit Harvesters programs. I hope that you'll join me in two things this holiday season; making this delicious stuffing, and supporting Harvesters good work! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.
