Hungryroot’s Best Back to School Options
Learn about Hungryroot’s best options for school lunchboxes and weeknight dinners!
Well, we’re back at it here! My son is officially a middle schooler, and things are quite hectic. His new school starts early and he’s on the bus at 6:30 AM. I know it will get easier when we’re adjusted to the early wakeup, but for now, all of us are struggling!
This month’s Hungryroot box came right on time for this tired Mom. Due to back-to-school, I mixed up my shipment this month to include healthy items for my son’s lunchbox, and super quick dinners that I can fit in between school and taking him to practice!
Read on to see my recommendations for back-to-school options from Hungryroot.

Hungryroot Lunchbox Options
Hungryroot has so many healthy items that can be added to your kiddo’s lunchbox. Here are a few of our family’s favorites that we have enjoyed over the past two weeks:
- Cuties Snack Pack: Adorably packaged, and the perfect portion for school lunches!
- Snap Happy Veggie + Ranch Snack Pack: A great veggie tray for one person and filling enough it can be the main character in your kid’s lunchbox.
- Mini Veggie Snack Pack: Order one for each day you’re packing lunch!
- Sopressatta and Cheddar Snack Pack: My son loves these easy charcuterie trays in place of his regular sandwich.
- Sunbutter and Jam Dipper: Another fun alternative to the standard sandwich!
- Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly Sandwich: These are sent as a 4-pack and are a great value.
- Pasture-Raised Hard-Boiled Eggs: An easy way to add filling protein to the lunchbox.
- Mango Sauce Cups: A tasty alternative to an apple sauce cup.
- Organic Pineapple Jerky: These also come in mango and are quite tasty! Made just from fruit.
- Grass Fed Beef Stick: A great way to add protein to the mix.
And for a special treat don’t forget to add the Sour Crunchy Gummy Rings to your shipment! My son loves these, and I love that they don’t have too much sugar.

Hungryroot Quick and Easy Weeknight Dinners
Most nights, we have practice or an activity to go to around dinnertime. To accommodate this time crunch around dinnertime, I used Hungryroot’s filters to find the best dinner options for us. For the filters, I applied:
- Family Dinners
- Cook Time = 20 minutes or less
From there, I was able to sift through a manageable amount of dinner options.

For this month, I chose the following dinner options:
- Shrimp Rigatoni Vodka (with Kid Friendly Option): We’ve ordered this recipe before and really enjoy it! The pre-made sauce is excellent. My son will eat happily eat the pasta with sauce, and I save a few plain sauteed shrimp for him as well.
- Spicy Sausage and Pesto Pizza (with Kid Friendly Option): This recipe was a smart way to provide both adult and kid-friendly options. My son ate a cheese pizza, while my husband and I really enjoyed the zesty turkey sausage and pesto on ours.
- Zesty Beef Tacos with Salsa (with Kid Friendly Option): My husband and I enjoyed the beef tacos with the veggie-packed salsa. My son topped the beef in his tacos with a bit of shredded cheese from the fridge.
