Learn how we plan to have a sweet, simple summer at home with Red Diamond Sweet Tea! This post includes a simple Sweet Tea Barbecue Sauce recipe, perfect for summer grilling!

It’s no secret that summer will look a little different this year. Vacations may get canceled and sport seasons put on hold. Pools may close and summer camp postponed.

My husband and I have been worried about it. What can we do to preserve the magic of summer for our son this year? So many summer traditions are off the table for us, and for him.

But, as we talked through what we remembered about our summers, as kids, we realized that the simplest traditions are the ones we remember.

We want to pass those traditions along. I want my son to have a freezer stocked with popsicles. And, to eat juicy slices of watermelon in the backyard, with drips of juice running down his arms.

I want him to know the anticipation of making S’mores at night, and the sweet reward of all the work it takes to make homemade ice cream.

I want him to experience the sweet, simple summer dinners of grilled food and fresh corn on the cob, pairing with special drinks like sweet tea.

I want to keep the fridge stocked with Red Diamond Sweet Tea, which just tastes like summer to me. It’s REAL, only made of tea leaves, water and sugar and so fresh that it can only be found in the refrigerator section. I will feel good about supporting a family-owned business in a time where family is everything.

While we make our s’mores and drink our sweet tea, we will fill our days with sprinklers, slip and slides and working on our garden together. We’ll fill our nights with board games, backyard camping and movies. I’ll tell my son to run barefoot through the grass, because I remember the feeling of freshly cut grass on my bare toes.

We’ll put homemade sweet tea barbecue sauce on our grilled chicken, listen to music and watch our son catch fireflies in the backyard as the sun sets.

I know that as parents, we are all worried about our children missing out on a normal summer. But, we can provide them a sweet, simple summer at home.

And just like we do now, they won’t remember the soccer practices they missed, or the camps that were cancelled. They’ll remember the sweet, simple traditions and the joy of being together.
