If you’re trying to source better quality meat without spending hours at specialty grocery stores, Hungryroot makes it surprisingly easy. Here’s what I’ve been ordering.

I’ve written a lot about Hungryroot over the past year, from high protein deliveries to meal prep weeks and meals my picky kiddo will actually eat. But there’s something I haven’t talked about much yet, and it’s one of my favorite things about the service: the quality of the protein!

Especially the grass fed beef.

As someone who is professionally trained in the kitchen, I care a lot about where my ingredients come from. And as a mom, I care about feeding my family well without turning every Tuesday into a scavenger hunt across three different stores. Hungryroot has become my go-to solution for that.

What “Grass-Fed” Actually Means

Grass-fed beef comes from cattle that are raised on a pasture diet rather than grain-fed in a feedlot. The result is beef that’s typically leaner, higher in omega-3 fatty acids, and (in my opinion), just tastes more like beef. You’ll notice a cleaner, stronger beef flavor, especially in something simple like a pan-seared steak or a burger.

The catch? Sourcing it consistently can be a pain. Whole Foods and specialty butcher shops carry it, but it’s pricier. Your standard grocery store may or may not have it depending on the week, and again, it’s going to be the most expensive option. That’s where Hungryroot comes in! High quality, well-sourced protein is just part of what they do.

How to Find the Right Proteins on Hungryroot

When you’re building your Hungryroot order, head to the Groceries tab and look for the protein section. Then, scan the ingredient labels. Hungryroot calls out grass-fed sourcing right on the product page for each item. For seafood, there will be clear labels for farmed or wild caught options, and Hungryroot is committed to sustainable sourcing.

Here’s what I’ve been ordering:

The High Quality Proteins I Keep Reordering

Hungryroot Grass-Fed Beef Sirloin Steak

This is probably my most-reordered item in the entire service. The sirloin steak is tender, well-marbled, and cooks up beautifully with nothing more than salt, pepper, and a hot cast iron skillet. I’ve used it for everything from the Sirloin Steak with Roasted Potatoes + Green Beans recipe to slicing it thin for a quick steak salad.

Hungryroot Grass-Fed Ground Beef Patties (85/15)

The 85/15 blend burgers are my go-to, and these patties come pre-formed so there’s zero prep involved. I used them in the Burger with French Fries + Chopped Salad recipe last month and my husband said it was one of the best burgers he’d had in a while. Coming from him, that’s a big win. I also recommend the regular ground beef, which is also 85/15.

Atlantic Salmon Fillets

If we’re talking quality protein options, I have to include their salmon. The Egg Harbor Seafood Atlantic Salmon Fillets are a staple in my orders. I’ve used them for the Feta Tzatziki Salmon + Crispy Potatoes recipe and also just quickly seared them and thrown them over a salad kit for an easy lunch. The quality is consistently excellent.

Center Cut Pork Chops

My family loves pork chops, and these boneless center cut pork chops are something I add to almost every order! They’re antibiotic and hormone free and always turn out tender and juicy.

Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp

I am picky about my shellfish, and these Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp are always delicious.

High-Quality Protein at Hungryroot

When you’re working with good quality grass-fed beef, you don’t need to do much to it. The protein is the star!

If sourcing cleaner, better-quality protein is something you want to do, but you’re short on time, Hungryroot takes the friction out of it. The options are right there and easy to find!

Better ingredients and less work? I’m a BIG fan of that!
