Iced Americano

For those of you who enjoy a bold and rich cuppa joe, Americano’s may be the way to go! An americano is simply espresso that has been added to hot water. So ultimately, it’s a strong cup of coffee!
An unconfirmed rumor has it that the name for this now ever so popular drink came from the American GI’s in Italy during WWII. They would add hot water to the Italians espresso because they were not accustomed to such a strong cup of coffee.
Traditionally this drink is served hot, but if you are sitting at home dreaming of summer days, this Iced Americano variation is a cool twist on the hot classic.
Americano’s are also great for entertaining because they don’t contain any cream or sugar. The possibilities are endless to let your guests flavor or fancy up their own beverage!
You can offer flavored creamers, syrups or even do a fun flavored ice cube! Or you can make homemade syrup like this copycat Starbucks Brown Sugar Syrup, or a homemade creamer like this Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer!
You can also serve this Americano hot! Or, use leftover espresso from this recipe to make a yummy Coffee Smoothie!
Want To Add Variety to your Iced Americano?
If you would like to sweeten with sugar, add it to the warm espresso so it has the chance to melt.
If you are adding a flavored syrup, you can just pour that over the ice at any time and stir.
If you’d like to add any kind of milk or cream just pour that in at the end!
(Michelle’s Note: I use my Nespresso machine to make espressso at home. If you’re a beginner at “fancy coffee drinks,” this machine makes it easy!)
Ingredients
- 1 double shot espresso
- 4 oz cool water you may add more if you prefer a weaker flavor
- 1 cup of ice
- Optional cream sugar or flavored syrups! (1 pump of syrup = roughly 1 Tablespoon)
Instructions
- Pull your double shot of espresso.
- Fill your cup with the ice and cool water and then pour your espresso over top!
