Creamy Parmesan Shrimp Pasta
This Creamy Parmesan Shrimp Pasta is an easy weeknight pasta with sautéed shrimp, grape tomatoes and an awesome cream sauce!
We eat shrimp every chance we get! I love that shrimp cooks quickly, and it’s one of my son’s favorite things to eat for dinner.
This easy shrimp pasta recipe is so simple to whip up, and wonderful when paired with bread and a simple salad.
While we usually make this go-to pasta dish on busy weeknights, BUT I think it’s wonderful for special occasions, too!
The succulent shrimp with the rich and creamy sauce make for a super impressive dinner.
What type of wine Should I use?
To make the creamy white wine sauce, use a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon blanc. You can absolutely use white cooking wine, as well.
But, do not substitute white wine vinegar! It’s acidity is way too high to be a proper substitute.
Recipe Additions
Consider this recipe a wonderful base recipe. You can make plenty of additions with things you might have on hand! Here are a few suggestions:
- A squeeze of lemon juice or a bit of lemon zest over the finished pasta is a wonderful addition!
- Add 2-3 diced garlic cloves and sauté alongside the shrimp, the tomatoes, or both if you’re a garlic lover!
- Add fresh spinach 1-2 minutes before serving for creamy Shrimp Florentine vibes.
- To add a bit of heat, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or 1-2 dashes of hot sauce.

Shrimp Pasta Recipe Substitutions
If you’ve been following me here at Blackberry Babe for a while, you know I’m a BIG fan of using what you have on hand! Here are a few substitution suggestions:
- Substitute chicken broth for the white wine.
- You can absolutely change up the kind of pasta! Substitute linguine noodles to make an easy shrimp linguine. Or, substitute spaghetti or angel hair to make Garlic Shrimp Spaghetti.
- Use any size fresh shrimp (large shrimp, jumbo shrimp), but know the cook time will need to adjust slightly

Serving Suggestions
I recommend serving this yummy pasta with garlic bread and Julie’s Italian House Salad or some fresh Greek Salad!
Storing Leftover Creamy Shrimp Pasta
Store leftover pasta in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 2 days. When you reheat the pasta, I recommend adding a splash of water or chicken broth to help loosen up the sauce.
Creamy Parmesan Shrimp Pasta
Ingredients
- 16 ounces penne pasta or angel hair pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound medium raw shrimp peeled, thawed, de-veined
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
For the sauce:
- 1 cup grape tomatoes
- 1 cup dry white wine or white cooking wine
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup grated Parmesan
Optional garnish:
- chopped fresh herbs fresh basil or fresh parsley
Instructions
- Prepare a large pot with boiling water and a pinch of salt. Cook the pasta to al dente, following package instructions.
- Prepare the shrimp by patting them dry with paper towels. Sprinkle the shrimp with garlic powder, salt and pepper.
- In a large sauté pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until the shrimp begin to turn opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and allow them to rest in a bowl while you make the sauce.
- To the uncleaned skillet, add wine, tomatoes, red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning. Scrape the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon to lift up any leftover bits of garlic or shrimp. Simmer the wine and tomatoes on medium-high heat for about 5 minutes, until the wine is reduced and the tomatoes start to soften.
- Next, reduce the heat to medium-low. Add heavy cream and simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes, until the mixture is thick and bubbly.
- Add Parmesan cheese, cooked shrimp and cooked pasta. Toss together until all ingredients are coated with the sauce.
- Sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs on top, serve warm.
Notes
- You can prick tomatoes with a fork prior to adding them to the skillet to help their juices release while cooking.
- Save up to a cup of the pasta water to add to the sauce, incase it is too thick.
- I love garlic, so I tend to add lots of garlic (fresh chopped cloves) to this dish.
