As an adventurous home cook, I love working with ingredients like whole grain oats. Their versatility provides a blank canvas for me to work with! Traditionally, I’ve eaten oats as a sweet breakfast dish. Recently, I’ve begun to experiment with savory oatmeal recipes!

Savory Oatmeal Recipe

This savory oatmeal recipe combines some of my favorite flavors. Smoked gouda is melted into the cooked oats. The dish is topped with chopped arugula, apples and prosciutto. The peppery bite of the arugula compliments the sweet apple and salty prosciutto. When you scoop up creamy, cheesy oats with a bit of each of the toppings, it’s heavenly!

When choosing a whole grain, oats are a great choice! Every ½ cup serving (uncooked) provides 4 grams of fiber and is a good source of vitamins and minerals like vitamin B1, magnesium, phosphorus and manganese!

I use Quaker® Quick Oats because they are high quality and cook quick! Only 1 minute on the stove or 1 1/2 to 2 minutes in the microwave.

It’s your preference on what type of Quaker Oats you choose. Between Instant, Quick, Old Fashioned or Steel Cut oats, the main difference is the size and cook time! The oats used in each variety are 100% whole grain and provide similar amounts of fiber.
