14ouncesshredded cabbage, or coleslaw mix, about 8 cups
2tablespoonswhite onion, very finely diced
For the vinaigrette dressing:
1/3cupsugar
1/4cupcider vinegar
1.5tablespoonswater, hot tap water
1.5tablespoonsvegetable oil
1/8teaspooncelery seed
1/8teaspoonpowdered mustard
1/8teaspoonsalt
1/8teaspoonblack pepper
Instructions
In a small bowl or mason jar, add the dressing ingredients: sugar, cider vinegar, water, oil, celery seed, mustard, salt, and pepper. Whisk or shake until well combined. The hot tap water should help dissolve the sugar. If the sugar does not dissolve, try adding the mixture to the microwave for 10-20 seconds, then shake or whisk again! You can also make the dressing on the stovetop in a small saucepan over very low heat.
To a large mixing bowl, add cabbage and onions. Pour dressing over the top and toss well to coat.
Cover, and chill in refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving.

Notes
This recipe is the traditional recipe handed down to me from my family. It is a SWEET and tangy dressing. If you are fearful that it will be too sweet, start with half the recommended sugar. You can always add, but it's hard to take away!
