whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
honey, maple syrup, or caramel sauce, for serving (optional)
Instructions
Using a melon baller, remove the cores from the apples, leaving the bottom intact.
In a small bowl, mix together the filling ingredients and melted butter. Spoon the mixture into the top of the apples.
Prepare the liner of a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
Arrange the apples around the bottom of the slow cooker. Add 1/4 cup of water (or apple cider) around the bottom of the apples to help keep them from burning to the crock pot.
Cook on low for about 2 hours. Watch closely, the apples will begin falling apart if overcooked.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and drizzle with honey, maple syrup or caramel sauce.
Notes
Sometimes instead of nuts, I like to mix a little granola into the apple stuffing. You can also sprinkle granola over the top when serving.
