11.5ouncesmilk chocolate chips, 326g, or chocolate bars
christmas sprinkles or crushed candy canes, for decoration
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400° Fahrenheit. Cover a half-sheet sized baking sheet with non-stick aluminum foil or parchment paper making sure to overlap the sides completely.
Line the saltine crackers in a single layer on the sheet pan. It's ok if a few overlap on the edges.
In a medium saucepan combine the brown sugar and butter to make the toffee mixture. Heat over low-medium heat, stirring often, until it the butter melts and it comes to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes without stirring. The mixture will come to a full rolling boil and get very sticky. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Pour the brown sugar mixture evenly over the crackers. Bake for 5 minutes.
Remove the crackers from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top. Allow the chocolate to melt for 1-2 minutes then spread the melted chocolate over the entire top of the cracker layer using a spatula.
Top with sprinkles and allow the candy to cool and set overnight.
Crack into pieces with your hands or use a knife for a cleaner cut.
Enjoy the finished candy as an easy gift or dessert!
