Easy Peach Dump Cake
Wondering how to make peach cobbler with cake mix? I’ve got you! This peach dump cake only uses a few simple ingredients, including canned peaches and cake mix.
Early in my blogging career, I published a dump cake recipe. It was this Blackberry Dump Cake, and it totally took off!
A dump cake is one of the easiest desserts you can make. It’s the perfect dessert if you aren’t much of a baker, but you have a sweet tooth, which is totally the case for me.
Some folks will call this a cake mix cobbler, and that description fits! This delicious recipe tastes almost as good as a homemade peach cobbler without all of the work. For this cake mix peach cobbler recipe, I chose to use cans of peaches instead of pie filling.
But, can you use fresh peaches? If you have them, ABSOLUTELY! There is nothing better than summer fresh, ripe peaches.
So, what do you need to complete this recipe? You will need the following ingredients:
- Canned sliced peaches: If you want to use ripe peaches, you will need 2 cups of thin slices of fresh peaches, then add a light syrup made with boiled sugar and water. You will need about 1 cup of the syrup. Instead of the light syrup, you could also use a light carbonated soda, like Sprite or 7-Up. If you use soda, it will make the cake fluffier. You can also use canned peach pie filling!
- Chopped walnuts: Pecans are another great option. Use your favorite nut!
- Vanilla extract
- Spice cake mix: Several other cake mixes work well! You can try white cake mix, yellow cake mix, or vanilla cake mix.
- Half and half: You can substitute whole milk or heavy cream instead.
- Salted butter: Unsalted butter can also be used, but add a small pinch of coarse sea salt.
To store leftovers of this Peach Cobbler Dump Cake, wrap or cover tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. You can also freeze it, but it will likely soften the top once thawed.
Like all recipes, you can make it your own! Here are a few ideas to modify this recipe:
Inside the dump cake, you can add:
- additional nuts like a cup of sliced almonds or walnuts
- chocolate chips
- butterscotch chips
- sliced apricots
- a little nutmeg or allspice
- drizzles of honey.
Make a Caramel Peach Cobbler Dump Cake by adding 10-15 caramel candies (the little squares) to the peaches. You could also add a sprinkle of caramel chips.
The caramel will melt alongside the peaches while the dish bakes. Then, top with a drizzle of hot drizzle of hot caramel sauce.
Toppings:
Finally, there are some excellent toppings you can add to this dump cake, one of which are walnuts. I also recommend whipped topping, ice cream, brown sugar, caramel sauce, or powdered sugar.
