Crockpot Stuffed Apples

It’s easy to make these slow cooker apples! You start with a simple fresh apple.

First, you remove the apple core, but leave the apple intact. Then, you mix a simple crumble out of nuts, brown sugar, butter and spices. I stuffed the apples with the crumble, then slow cooked them in the crock pot.

Towards the end of the cook time, I recommend to check the apples frequently for doneness. If they are overcooked, they will fall apart!

This recipe assumes you are using large apples, so if you are using smaller apples, it’s especially important to check the apples for doneness.

What Apple Should I Use for Stuffed Apples?

You can of course use different types of apples for this recipe! I used granny smith, because they are hold up for longer amounts of baking. And, I prefer a tart apple for this recipe.

I have also used golden delicious, Honeycrisp, and pink lady apples, and they work great! Choose your favorite type of apple, no stress!

Ingredients

  • 6 medium Granny Smith apples
  • 1/4 cup water or apple cider for crock pot

For the filling:

  • ¼ cup dried cranberries
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg

For serving:

  • whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)
  • honey maple syrup, or caramel sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Using a melon baller, remove the cores from the apples, leaving the bottom intact.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the filling ingredients and melted butter. Spoon the mixture into the top of the apples.
  • Prepare the liner of a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Arrange the apples around the bottom of the slow cooker. Add 1/4 cup of water (or apple cider) around the bottom of the apples to help keep them from burning to the crock pot.
  • Cook on low for about 2 hours. Watch closely, the apples will begin falling apart if overcooked.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, and drizzle with honey, maple syrup or caramel sauce.

Notes

Sometimes instead of nuts, I like to mix a little granola into the apple stuffing. You can also sprinkle granola over the top when serving.
